SCHOOL PROGRAMMES

The Peranakan Museum offers Self-Guided Trails and workshops focusing on the exploration and understanding of the unique Peranakan culture. Drop us an e-mail or give us a call if you are interested to conduct workshops at the Peranakan Museum amongst our fine collection. You can view the highlights of our museum here.

Educators, please book visit slots via e-mail to our Education Officer at least 6 weeks in advance. Please read through and put into practice the Peranakan Museum Guidelines here.

Our Guided Tour slots are only available on the selected days starting from February 2009:

• Maximum number of students per Guided Tour slot is 40 pax (1 class)
• Bookings should be made at least six weeks in advance. The last day of booking is the 15th of preceding month
• Guided Tours are only for NHB-Member Schools
• Requests for days not listed will not be entertained

My First Museum Visit

What is it?
Through storytelling, role-playing, dancing, music, crafts and an interactive guided tour, this captivating workshop will allow the children to experience what the Peranakan Museum can offer. Not to be missed!

What is so special about it?
Highlights of the workshop include a fascinating tour to look for wedding treasures, a joget session where children will learn to dance like a Baba and Nonya, and the opportunity to touch the Museum’s rare handling collections.  To cap this engaging workshop, the children will draw and bring home a picture, describing their first museum experience! A workshop for the senses.

Rituals - Understanding the Past

What is it?
This focus tour explores the rich and elaborated rituals of the Peranakans. At the end of the tour, students will have a greater understanding and appreciation for traditions, especially in this increasingly modern society where such rituals may be dismissed by some as irrelevant.

What is so special about it?
Facilitators will invite students to observe, think and discuss the concept and practice of rituals

Stories and More

What is it?
Let us take you on a journey into the world of the Peranakans. We will explore how children can learn together by participating in stories from the past. While having fun, children will pick up precious skills in speaking, listening and observation.

This one hour free pilot programme is kindly supported by Friends of the Museums (FOM).

What is so special about it?
This highly interactive tour of select displays is presented as a string of stories.

This DIY treasure hunt will lead students to 10 challenges related to our artefacts in various galleries on their hunt for Bibik Neo, the matriarch of a Peranakan household.

Easy to implement and highly empowering! Students get to find answers on their own (or in pairs) in this self-guided activity
